Community Journalism

Virginia Community Journalism Workshop

KAXE's Citizen Journalism project continues with a community journalism workshop on Wednesday May 21st from 9 AM to 5 PM at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia.

This training will be conducted by Doug McGill, a former New York Times reporter and Bloomberg News Sevice bureau chief. It is a continuation of last fall's series of day-long trainings in Bemidji and Grand Rapids for community journalists. Over 45 local participants in those workshops were trained to report stories about their local communities. McGill's trainings are based on his Largemouth Journalism Handbook.

If you have been interested in reporting on events in your community, these trainings are a chance to get started with Journalism in a Nutshell. You can use the training to contribute stories to your local community web site as part of KAXE's community internet project. No previous journalism experience is necessary.

It is free and open to anyone in the KAXE listening area - or out of it really. There is no charge, but we would like to know if you can make it, so registration is required. Call KAXE at 218-326-1234, e-mail: kaxe@kaxe.org or register online.
